Copper-silver production at Dikulushi, on the eastern border of the DRC provided the foundation for Anvil’s development as a mining company in 2002. The DRC remains Anvil’s key focus for exploration with the discovery and definition of additional resources in the famous central African Copperbelt.
Exploration Team
The Exploration Team in the DRC includes fifteen geoscientists and over thirty non-technical support staff, of whom over 80% are local nationals.
Drilling Capability
Anvil owned five drill rigs in June 2007 and had two new multi-purpose diamond drill (DD) and reverse circulation (RC) rigs on order, giving the Company internal capacity to test targets and drill out new resources, as required. The drilling operations are managed, on contract, by Wallis Drilling Pty Ltd (www.wallisdrilling.com.au) of Perth. In 2006, Anvil drilled over 33,000m, and achieved an average discovery rate of 70t copper per metre drilled.
Exploration Priorities
In the DRC, the current exploration priorities are as follows:
Kinsevere
• Evaluate full extent of oxide copper resource potential at Tshifufiamashi and Kinsevere Hill.
• Evaluate the oxide copper resource potential at Nambulwa.
Kolwezi
Discover new deposits of open-pittable oxide copper, to supplement feed from the Kulu River to the HMS plant and to provide additional resource for a future SX-EW plant.
Dikulushi
Discover new deposits of open-pittable copper resources, within trucking distance of the Dikulushi Mine, to supplement the high-grade feed from underground and maximize utilization of the Dikulushi Plant.
Other exploration projects in the DRC include: Likasi, Kalemie, and Lungeshi.
